Common Pitfalls in Occupational Health Case Management and how to get the most out of a referral
In this video interview, Katie Eastwell, Managing Partner of Lincoln Occupational Health, discusses the challenges regularly faced between the HR Advisor and/or the referring Manager and the Occupational Health professional, when actioning a referral.
Based on her experience, Katie explains the importance of the referral providing detailed, transparent and clear written information to enable the Occupational Health professional to adequately address the specific management concerns to avoid situations where employers might sometimes feel frustrated by the outcome of the assessment.
The referral needs to clearly include (with the employee’s knowledge and consent) the impact the employee’s symptoms or condition is having on them at work and if/how it is affecting performance, attendance or behaviour at work – this will enable a more targeted and useful assessment where the specific management concerns can be addressed and robust Occupational Health advice given to allow the employer to move the case forwards in an appropriate and considered way.
